CESL launches clean energy drive, demand aggregation for hydrogen buses

Vijayawada: Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the Ministry of Power, is expanding its role in driving India’s clean mobility revolution.
Following the successful aggregation and tendering of over 33,000 electric buses across multiple States, CESL is now focusing on aggregating demand for hydrogen buses in States like Andhra Pradesh in cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati and Hyderabad, Warangal and other locations in Telangana.
The Union Government-nominated nodal agency CESL has unveiled a dedicated action plan to promote hydrogen mobility, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable economic development and climate action.With Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) historically hesitant due to low hydrogen bus demand, CESL’s plan aims to aggregate national-level demand for hydrogen buses, drive coordination between Centraland State stakeholders and harmonise procurement efforts across States and agencies.
It also focuses on buildings confidence among OEMs, financiers, and industry partners. Under the effective leadership of the Union Government, CESL is positioned to accelerate India’s transition toward hydrogen-based mobility solutions. Several PSUs and government organisations have expressed interest in adopting hydrogen buses.
CESL has invited national and State-level agencies to share their requirements using the format provided by CESL.
Leveraging its proven success in electric bus procurement, CESL is committed to supporting clean mobility objectives and nurturing India’s hydrogen ecosystem. Mandated to accelerate clean energy solutions, CESL is implementing programs across electric and hydrogen mobility nationwide.
CESL has been designated by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as the Nodal/Project Implementing Agency for demand aggregation, tendering, and deployment of electric buses under flagship programs.
EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit in a letter addressed to prominent stakeholders like Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing director of NHPC, explained the need for hydrogen buses demand aggregation for the benefit of the nation.
Apart from several metropolitan cities/towns of Northern States CESL will mainly focus in Southern States/cities/towns such as Vishakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Warangal, Bengaluru, Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore and Thiruvananthapuram.
